cw discourse, long post
in my view cwing heavy important topics is not about being sheltered, it's about providing choice to people who have potentially bad reactions to the wrong infostimulus at the wrong time
in other words, lemme look at the cw so i can decide whether or not i'm in the right mental state to read whatever it is you're talking about. as important as [insert topic here] absolutely unquestionably is, sometimes i just plain don't have the spoons
and if you don't use the cw facility to give me the choice not to interact with heavy topics, i will exercise the choice to mute your account to protect my own mental health. and, in view of the fact that in the future i may well be more receptive to reading stuff, why would you want to encourage me cutting you off forever?
idk, i think that's reasonable enough, right? do let me know if i'm missing something here
re: cw discourse, long post
@typhlosion Also if someone doesn't want to have anything be behind a CW, there's options in one's own profile to pre-open all CWs (at least on some Mastodon instances, I can't speak for all of them)
So at least in my case, where I'm fine with just reading things, instead of forcing others to see things that way, I can just set one setting and then I'll see all the text--no need to force anybody else to see things they'd rather not see, I understand why people would want to not see what's behind certain CWs (bad mental triggers, flashback-inducing things, someone is busy eating so they don't want to see anything gross at the moment, etc)
