re: computer things
also, what are good vectors for upgrading in the mid/long term
my understanding is that intel cpu and nvidia gpu Aren't Great as far as options go in those categories but i had someone else put this build together for me years ago back when i didn't really know anything (i still don't really know anything)
re: computer things
@typhlosion People'll go "AMD sucks, Nvidia is where the power is!" but GPUs these days? They're so powerful it doesn't really matter anyway, we'd bet.
re: computer things
@typhlosion You'll want to look for a new CPU before a new graphics card most likely, something with a little more beef behind it
Honestly I use intel and Nvidia for my builds and have never really had an issue but that does make me kind of a minority opinion right now depending on who you ask. When I was younger AMD was godawful so that's still just ingrained in my thought processes
re: computer things
@typhlosion it's actually still a solid build, you'll be able to play basically anything, though for really recent games you might have to go low settings. IMO you're in a position to either upgrade the CPU or the GPU and it would be a solid choice either way. Upgrading the GPU would have a more direct effect on game performance in the short term, but upgrading the CPU is a good long term investment (I have a 6600k as well but I'm about to upgrade).
re: computer things
@typhlosion AMD is good! Not only do they have far better Linux support if that's your thing, even if you run Windows, they're an /actually decent company/ for once.
Unlike Nvidia.
