is master chief being able to operate alien weapons just a narrative/mechanical convenience or is it explained somewhere in the lore why/how it is that alien guns just so happen to be constructed to fit nicely in a human hand too

halo lore spoilers maybe??

@typhlosion iirc, it turns out that all the intelligent life shown in the games' setting is descended from and/or created by the "Forerunners", with humans being the most closely-related (which caused the Covenant to attack them because something something prophecy I think?)

halo lore spoilers maybe??

@starseeker i knew it had to do with the forerunners somehow

halo lore spoilers maybe??

@typhlosion I'm probably misremembering, since I've like
not really actually played any of the games except for a few minutes of the first one's local pvp >.>

Actual big ass Halo spoilers

@starseeker @typhlosion
The Forerunners, Humanity, and the San’shyum (Prohpets) all existed at the same point and evolved separately, more than likely due to gene seeding from the “Precursor” race that became the Flood due to fucking up their stasis tech.

Humanity was trying to stop the Flood from spreading across the entire galaxy and as a result glassed a Forerunner civilian planet.

@starseeker @typhlosion the Forerunners took this as a declaration of War and just barely scraped out a victory against Humanity, wiping them out and sending them back to the Stone Age with a single colony on a backwater planet that would later be called Earth. Then, the Forerunners realized that Humanity was running from and trying to stop the Flood. The Forerunners were to weakened after their war with Humanity to do much but delay.

@starseeker @typhlosion so they resorted to “final solution” tactics and constructed the Halo array, and then fired it, wiping out nearly all sentient life in the galaxy. The Forerunners’ leader, Didact, sealed himself away in a shield world to survive while his wife Librarian indexed Humanity as the “Reclaimers” as an apology for what the Forerunners did to them, hoping they would evolve to take their place.

Actual big ass Halo spoilers

@starseeker @typhlosion 100,000 years later we arrive at the “present day” in terms of the Halo games. And the Covenant led by the distant descendants of the survivors of the San’Shyum race saw humanity indexed as “Reclaimers” in an old Forerunner computer and realized that this basically meant that they existed during the time of the Forerunners and were chosen to succeed them, and that threatened their religious dictatorship.

Actual big ass Halo spoilers

@starseeker @typhlosion so they declared holy war on Humanity hoping to wipe them out before they ascended and held dominion over the galaxy as the caretakers of life under what the Forerunners called “The Mantle of Responsibility”.

not spoilers, answering the original question

@starseeker @typhlosion
As for why Master Chief can use alien weapons so easily, one, he’s had a ton of practice and two, he’s fucking like almost 8 feet tall in his armor. Dude is an absolute god damned unit who does what he wants and uses big guns because he can.

@typhlosion I think the lore is just "Master Chief is HUGE in relation to other humans."
