@hi_cial it was inspired by a real experience i just had in my favorite cafe but i am not worldly enough to say whether it's universal or not. i suppose my angle was that it adds to the sublime aura of legitness you get in restaurants owned by immigrants who care deeply about... food, and also things in general

@hi_cial obviously american food made by american foodies can be and often is also great. and probably i didn't think fully through the implications of the original post. (as a white american... maybe i should delete it? though it is resonating with people, it seems)
