either my dreamcast is magic or pier solar is region-free already

my copy of Pier Solar and the Great Architects has NTSC-J all over it. "For Japan Only," it says, in multiple places on the packaging. so, i was looking into getting past region-locking because i figured i'd probably not be able to play it on my north american dreamcast

on a lark, i put the disc in anyway and see what will happen, expecting some sort of "wrong region" message

and... it boots and runs anyway??

thinking i might have gotten a J console, i tried Bust-a-Move 4 (which has an ESRB rating right on the disc so i know it's a north american game) and it works too

so my assumption is one of:
- my dreamcast was already modded to make it region-free and i wasn't aware when i bought it
- pier solar, being a modern homebrew game, is region-free despite all the packaging saying it's only for NTSC-J

does anyone know if pier solar is like that, or does my dreamcast just have magic powers

either my dreamcast is magic or pier solar is region-free already

@typhlosion my best guess is that they made it region free, since this is undoubtedly doing what most bootleg Dreamcast games do by exploiting the MIL CD standard

@EeveeEuphoria it's very strange that they'd put FOR JAPAN ONLY on the back if that's the case. maybe it's for legal purposes or something?
