I see a lot of Star Wars people say things like "The Jedi are awful" when what they really mean is "The Jedi Order, especially at the time of the fall of the Republic, was awful."

These two statements are not the same statement.

Like, Obi-Wan was one of the best Jedi of all time, he was truly the encapsulation of everything a Jedi should strive to be, but I've seen TONS of people be like "If Obi-Wan was such a good Jedi, why was he constantly butting heads with the Council?"

Because the Council were fucking idiots too lost in the sauce of their own hype and convinced they could do no wrong that they let a fucking Sith take control of galactic politics before they would even admit that maybe the Sith had returned! That's literally the entire point of the prequel trilogy!!

@coriander ive always thought the council was just the most obvious manifestation of a more fundamental problem with the ethos of the jedi. emotions are fine to have and express as long as you're not consumed by them; striking that balance between the light and dark sides of the force should have been the goal, not focusing on one at the expense of the other

this is what i *thought* episode 8 and the new trilogy generally were gonna explore, but then palpatine returned for no reason

@coriander of course that's not at all to say the jedi are awful per se, more just that their position is a flawed one
