there's something incredibly human about being inside a museum and trying not to stare at all the dicks on the statues

i'll be like "no this is a great work of art, i can't reduce it down to just a penis" but it's so hard not to be like, staring at it and wondering what the size of the penis says about the sculptor, wonder if the sculptor has a penis that's bigger or smaller than this and how they feel about that, whether people back then were so fixated on the dick, etc

i will never manage to escape a naked statue without thinking "huh i guess modern dicks are just a lot bigger. good for us"

it's legitimately engaging with the art, is the thing

@heatherhorns I figure posing nude was kind of chilly and that shrunk things down a bit but who knows, maybe they thought smaller was cuter, or maybe they're less likely to snap off that way

@lioness @heatherhorns iirc it was genuinely a cultural thing at least in the case of ancient greece. small packages were considered a sign of self control and a signifier of male beauty, whereas larger or erect ones were seen as gross, base, and comical
