hey demoscene critters: revision is behind us, but ive been watching the compo vods and have been getting an itch to try demoscene-ing for myself

however, i live in the united states, so it's not like i can just find a local demoparty and go to it

how would y'all recommend i get started? just make a thing and post it? save it to submit to some party that accepts remote submissions from wherever? what's the way

@typhlosion There's a furry demoscene Telegram group, and a pseudo-official demoscene Discord that's pretty chill, both are worth joining. :3

Online release of a prod, and remote submission to a party, is indeed a thing! If you're making cool stuff and want it out there, pop it on Pouet and Demozoo and people will find it :D

They definitely are rarer, but there are US parties and satellite parties of Revision.

@typhlosion there are still a few parties in the US, but idk in which state you live so idk if you can just go to them:

atparty-demoscene.net/

demosplash.org/

socaldemoscene.com/

a bunch of other parties also accept remote submission and have a stream you can watch, see eg. demoparty.net/streamed

I'd also suggest getting into contact with a number of sceners/having a friend group with a few of them (it doesn't have to be a "formal" demogroup or anything), it makes it easier to inspire each other to start working, and keep working, on things, and get feedback on it

there are also a bunch of chat groups (on discord/matrix/irc/...) but the non-invite-only ones tend to be rather big and maybe a bit noisy. or at least that's my impression, idk

to actually get practical info about getting started making the actual thing, well, that really depends on what you want to do, and for what platform. code? graphics? music? newschool? oldschool? wild? answers kinda depend on that

@pcy oh, i didnt know there was a party in boston! i'll go to that one i spose

thats all i was wondering about. i can get started on the actual coding and whatnot myself :> if i have any questions about specific formats i'll reach out!
