a couple of pc build questions:
- ddr5 ram: is there a meaningful difference between 6000 and 6400 MHz
- is overclocking still a thing that gives practical and noticeable improvements in performance these days or are the added power draw and build stipulations not worth it anymore
- when did case manufacturers decide that wanting more than two usb ports on the case front panel was a trap laid by satan and was never to be entertained
@typhlosion also if you want loads of accessible usb3 you could consider running a reversed layout where the back panel faces you and you have airflow the other way around
this comes with the downside of more visible cable mess (some cases come with ziptie points on the back edge so you can tie all the permanent cables together into one neat bundle) but that may be worth it to you
@typhlosion fwiw you may be able to get away with using an internal USB3 hub + a drive-bay port module (sometimes the latter integrates its own hub too). could even get a PCIe USB card with internal headers if you really want dedicated bandwidth for the extra ports
also lmao there is still plenty of new hardware using DDR4 at less than half that frequency, unless you're playing extremely demanding brand new games constantly that difference will be nigh unnoticeable :p
@typhlosion
1. not much of a difference
2. cpus are Really good at overclocking themselves safely nowadays, unless you're looking to get high scores in benchmarks just give it a decent cooler and let it do its thing
3. i dunno, tho i imagine that's a reasonably doable casemod
