torrenting etiquette question: how long should i seed a torrent (aside from "as long as possible" obviously)? i figure my seed/leech ratio should be above a certain value - 1.0? 2.0? any guidance here?
@typhlosion it depends on the tracker, but 24 hours is generally considered baseline polite, but a lot of places like if you can go for longer. if its a private tracker, they probably have explicit rules, but otherwise if you've seeded at least 1.0, you're also good
@rezzish @typhlosion seconding this view; generally speaking 24 hours/1.0 ratio is a good thing to aim for if you're not using some private tracker site that says to go for longer or a higher ratio.
@typhlosion depends on how many other seeds there are honestly. but you kinda got it right with the "as long as possible". but 1.0 is a fine target
@Xkeeper yeah - like i said, the context is that i need to move some files in a way that would be destructive to the seeding, but the files are like a terabyte in total so i don't want to copy them around
@typhlosion if the seeds/leechers ratio is high enough and/or it's not any kind of private tracker i'd just say whatever. seed until you decide you need the terabyte more than numbers nobody will care about.
@typhlosion if there's 100 seeders and 5 leechers then like, there isn't a whole lot you can do to get your ratio up. just do it while you can and when you're done, you're done.
@typhlosion i just 24/7 seed the stuff I DL because bonus points for more ratio on my end since private tracker
the context here is that i've got a bunch of the eXo collections seeding, but the torrents put them in their own separate folders and (according to the installer) i need to merge them before installing them in order for it to work properly, which would be destructive to the torrent seeding
