f2p with microtransactions can work extremely well as a consumer-friendly business model in very specific cases, typically when it gets you something permanent rather than consumable
like rhythm games letting you buy permanent access to premium songs so you don't have to pay $50 for 47 songs you're never gonna play
i like Neon FM for this reason. that is a f2p mobile game that does microtransactions well
shame about literally the entire rest of the market tho
@zheida yeah!
so the way neon fm does it is: there are two or three songs, rotating weekly, that are free to play. you play those to get silver credits that you spend on single plays of other songs
you buy gold credits with real money and can use those on single plays or use more of them all at once to buy the song permanently
i really like that model
@typhlosion ah yes that is much nicer, cookie run oven break is the one I play usually and they are p generous with the "paid" currency so if you just put in some time/effort u can generally get everything without paying. Which is so nice, the original was like that too. I'm usually more inclined to give money to games that do these kinda things so I wish more would adopt the methods

@Fenreliania ooh i like that idea
in Neon FM's specific case i think that, once you've bought all the songs and removed ads, there's no more reason to spend more money til they add new songs? i actually haven't looked too far into it though

@typhlosion I'm happy to put money into companies that I feel have done right by me. I don't regret putting money into mechwarrior online, and everything I bought just saved me time.

@typhlosion I remember when there were f2p mmos that wouldn't do skeevy stuff to get you to pay money, most they'd do is EXP boosts and costumes.
@typhlosion I feel the same, and when they give you the ability to do everything in the game without paying and it just requires a little more effort I appreciate that model too. I don't mind giving money to a game I like just don't gouge the shit outta me while I'm trying to enjoy it LOL
