Flexible Image Transport System, keeps all the details taken by a sensor, including calibration data which can be reproduced by someone else. It’s specifically designed for scientific analysis so there’s a lot of information about the image and the tool used to take it, including the environment
Maybe we need a FITS equivalent for art that preserves the brush strokes so the details of its creation aren’t lost in rasterization
