Hey everyone! As you might know already, a.weirder.earth suffered a catastrophic hardware failure, taking us down for about 2 weeks and forcing us to move to a completely new instance.

A lot of us (myself included) didn't back up our follows either. So we're very much on square one.

How you can help:

- Contribute to #ff (follow friday) tomorrow. Everyone could do with the follow suggestions.
- Check your follows. If anyone is from 'a.weirder.earth', refollow them on 'weirder.earth'.

Thanks!

Damn it, it's that time again:

The end of the month has come and I have bills to pay. Can you help me keep groceries on my table and my utilities on? Please?

forget AAA batteries. the new hotness in portable power is indie batteries

There's something important here, I think, in that there's a lot of power in giving users a small set of combinatorial tools *which harmonise well together*.

In PETSCII, you had to work hard to make something look dissonant. The shapes just naturally came together and made beauty and simplicity look and feel easy.

This gave you a sort of invisible cybernetic boost to your natural creativity. Scribble something, anything, and wow. Hard to overestimate just how good that felt.

a mathematician walks into a bar and orders a glass of orange juice.

"don't you want anything stronger?" asks the bartender

"no thanks, i'm deriving later"

The Commodore PET (1977) had I think the most amazing graphics-friendly character set of all time and I sorely miss it. It was SO EASY to just pick up and start writing a beautiful tile-based game, even pseudo-3D; you almost did it by accident.

game idea: persistent ctf. on each server is just a long, ongoing drop-in-drop-out match, with a big map and a bunch of teams, and no game-defined end goal - just try to keep your team on top in points

There's also a really good Choose Your Own Adventure based on Hokuto no Ken.

tired: the trope of powerful women turning into dragons in animated movies (maleficent, ludmilla, i could go on) is a natural fantasy-oriented extension of the classic femme fatale trope

wired: the trope of powerful women turning into dragons in movies is the movie directors hiding their kinks in plain sight

holy shit i just noticed the follow requests thing OOPS SORRY

more baconian ponderances: if i made a virtual simulation of kevin bacon, how accurate of a simulation would it have to be for it to count as kevin bacon?

what is the bacon proximity threshold, anyway? does he have to physically act, or does voice acting count? if voice acting counts, would a sufficiently sophisticated kevin bacon vocaloid count as kevin bacon? so many unanswered questions

@typhlosion if he's cremated and scattered in the ocean does that make the ocean count as Kevin bacon for calculations

if kevin bacon ever dies and is interred in a cemetery, do you think anyone who films a scene at that cemetery will count as having a bacon number of 1
