a friend of mine is working on a preservation/revival project for an online game from like 1999-2005 or so. it's a top down zelda-y game with a map editor and a scripting system so you can submit content to be included. it's a really neat slice of game history

so one of my projects is to make custom content for my friend's server for this game

but the other project is to make my own game that's like it but more modern and less janky, lmao

This dragon breathes keysmash for some reason?

(about twenty minutes doodling)

i have two projects that i want to work on. i guess it's time to actually try to... (gulp, tugs on collar)... schedule my time

i love the idea galactic algorithms. technically the fastest way to solve a problem, in the limiting case as the inputs get arbitrarily big, but with so much overhead that it's only faster if the inputs are way bigger than would ever be practical

when i first heard of it, i thought "the kinds of problems those exist for must be extremely complicated"

it turns out that the fastest known method for multiplying two integers is a galactic algorithm. it's based on a 1729-dimensional fourier transform. if i understand correctly, it becomes faster than other algorithms when the inputs have about 10^100000000000000000000000000000000000000 digits

making a Halo fan character who’s a pelican pilot like Echo 419, and naming them Echo 621
