emails are so bad. i used to manage to stay at like 1-2 unread (a basic todo list) but over the last like year i've gotten so far behind that they hover around 100-200+ unread. like everything, i used to be a lot better at "keeping on top of things".

i'm so dysfunctional any more.

@Xkeeper this is me!!!!!

my strategy is: scan when i have the spoons, read only stuff with headlines i care about, mark the rest read

mh dumbs

@vahnj i do this too but the numbers still generate anxiety when high and there's a ton of stuff like bills or other things that just pile up now

mh dumbs

@Xkeeper *nods* that's why i only do it when i know i have the spoons for it

mh dumbs

@vahnj @Xkeeper Yeah, I usually keep my work inbox < 25-50 (knowing that I mark as unread things that I read but require further action from me), at least when I'm not off sick.

My personal email is a massive garbage dump, though; I've barely read it in the last years, and I have, as of currently, 150k emails in my inbox, and no spoons to recreate/fix the filtering system that used to make it useable.

mh dumbs

@vahnj @Xkeeper I don't know?
Like, in principle (and @ work) I like email much more than unscheduled phone calls (or worse, coming to my office); it's just that I'm too broken to reliably read my mail currently.

Phone is the worst, though.

@kellerfuchs @vahnj email sucks but it's less bad than the other options. but it still requires mental energy and lol if your brain batteries are dead.

work si a fuck. get rid of it forever. boom. fix.

mh dumbs

@Xkeeper @vahnj Meh.

Getting rid of work isn't a solution, since I should have the mental spoons to read emails I care about (and act on them),
