It's spawned from many sources: from earnest concern for those important to us, projected self-preservation, or experiences with those who don't take responsibility for their decisions. This last specifically: those who ask why no one stopped-them, or why they weren't warned, or there should be a law preventing...—and while those can be valid in cases, it's frustrating when it comes from people who clearly did know better and still refuse to acknowledge it. When people who won't bear their burden for their decisions say "I fucked up," it may feel like a call for pity.
You? I've known for awhile that if you ever say "I fucked up," it means just that. It's an acknowledgement. No ass-kissing, there-there, you poor thing sympathy expected or required. And while I would never *want* to see you cause yourself grievous harm, I'd hope I'd never deign to be condescending to your autonomy.
