Animal of the day (024)

The Bearded Vulture is truly metal, not only for his looks, but also for his feeding habits. The only bird of prey whose diet mainly revolves around bones, it also sometimes attacks live prey, with perhaps greater regularity than any other vulture. Spread through Africa, Southern Europe and Asia, it is known to lift bones as heavy as it is to great altitudes, and drop them down to crack on the rocks below, in order to get to the bone marrow. It is also known to do the same to tortoises to crack open their shells.
