DOOM 2016, some thoughts
So I'm.... I dunno. Unimpressed?
I think I'm about half way through? The first two levels were a lot of fun but oh boy does it start to drag.
These devs know how to make a combat arena, but that's basically it for map design? signposting oscillates between so present it's distracting to just completely missing.
They give you a double jump and then EVERY jump is a double jump.
Cool, jumping just became more of a chore? Cool upgrade guys.
DOOM 2016, some thoughts
It's a Doom game, I'm not expecting a good story. It's Doom. But we've got...
Hayden, the one note AI-I mean doctor.
Vega, the kinda bland dude-I mean AI.
Olivia, the reject Dead Space minor antagonist?
Like right in the first level there's Hayden saying "we did what was best for humanity" while the doomslayer looks down at a corpse and I was actually hyped?
Shouldn't have been. Seems like the only spark of good writing so far.

And like, It's Doom? It's an oldschool shooter? Why are the guns all so... uninspiring?
Pistol, by level 4 it's just kinda pointlessly bad.
Shotgun, Second fave gun, this is perfect. 100% what I want
Assault Rifle, it's a gun, it shoots good. #1 scope, kill all the smallfry
Rocket Launcher, I mean yeah. Solid. I don't like RPGs in these games but okay.
Ion cannon thing, could have just been a BFG? Sure, it's good.
Every other gun in this game is bloat.
re: DOOM 2016, some thoughts
@Draekos DOOM Eternal embraced the crazy arena fight stuff to an extreme but did it much better. It is a dramatically more fluid and better game in my opinion. Even if it is incredibly intense and I could only play it a few hours at a time and even then it basically drained every drop of focus and mental energy I had.
Which was a shame because it was really fucking fun.
