regarding Github doubling down on the AI bullshit:

_you don't have to Github._ Open source software was never about any single hub. Sourceforge had an exodus, Google Code shut down, USENET ain't what it once was, and yet projects keep happening.

I run a personal instance of Gitea -- gitea.com -- on the servers I'm renting from Linode, managed via Cloudron (cloudron.io). My specific instance is not taking general signups, but the software stack involved is manageable for folks who want to get into self-hosting, or hosting small communities.

@kistaro We host our gitea at work. Generally it works really well until someone does something very foolish but I can definitely see the advantage to self hosting your own.
