@IrisKalmia If only! He will probably get a minor ass chewing and so will the people that filed the request.
So while searching our cages and auditing them I noticed a box that looked hell of a lot like the box I was looking for in the IT cage (badge access only) but I could not read the label, it was too far away.
About an hour later the IT DCO manager calls me as he is rushing up to the datacenter to give me my damned box.
It turns out that after filing the notice to ops of a security issue. and ops sorting out a plan to address it (patch then replace)
Security team went filed an IT decom request (IT is not supposed to touch our stuff and vice versa but this box was in a cage IT has to pass through to get to thier cage). The IT datacenter manager took it on himself to decom the box. Which was shortly before the director of ops hit me up to find out wtf happened to this system.
I do not have enough WTFs for this today. Yesterday around 2pm a system went off line. The ops director asked me to check it out since I'd be at the Colo it was in. Is just gone. Cables still in rack.
Much wtfing later, search all of our cages in this datacenter... and jira and everything else.. Yes box is marked for decom but not until new hardware is deployed replace it (which I know it's not because that ticket is assigned to me....)
@Oneironott Obviously needs LED back lighting!
Saved from a certain work place annoyance by trust lawyers calling early... Planned and let my boss know I'd be leaving just before 3 and working from home.. they call at 2:40... I answer everything in the car on the way home... Uh... well then. Not sure why you guys thought this would take an hour... now I'm home.. and thinking about running to the grocery store with my new found hour of not supposed to be available.
work grumbles
And I have gnarly headache which... I'm pretty sure has something to do with weird lightning situation in the office... since I haven't felt this way since the last time I worked 6+ hours in the office.. it's like behind my eyes.
work grumbles
And it's not fucking like I'm not working on it... he demanded it be installed ASAP the day before I went on vacation for my birthday... and then last week we had two days off for oppress the natives day. I'm fucking pissed.
Worst part is my boss is just annoyed because he had no problem with what I was doing and literally responded with "I don't know why he can't just use Slack like everyone else."
work grumbles
Two weeks later box still won't talk to kvm and IPMI is not playing nice networking wise... mostly because he insisted on putting it in the old ass datacenter with a bunch of fucky networking shit and were I don't have core access so I have annoy one of the senior ops people to double check shit because lol when IT installed the core router they bought one not radius enabled for "security" now IT doesn't manage any of it and Ops inherited it..
work grumbles
And he proceded to show up at my desk around lunch time to bug me about an install of some hardware that is taking way to long (his box won't talk to the ancient kvm in the datacenter I would have told him not to deploy hardware in and would have rejected it if he had followed our fucking provisioning process instead of just ordering outside of standard process and bitching about how it HAD TO BE DONE ASAP!!!!! And I got it racked that day and fucking worked on until 1am)
work grumbles
So now I have to be in the office at least 3 days a week from 11am-4pm because some asshat engineering manager that has a habit of dropping my desk and interrupting whatever I'm doing to demand I work on whatever thing of his is in my queue complained to the Senior VP of Operations that I was never at my desk to talk to.
Motherfucker, you are like 60% I why I get more work done at home than the office.

NO I DO NOT HAVE A STATUS UPDATE FOR YOUR SORT OF CRITICAL (TO YOU, NOT ME) PROJECT. IT IS MONDAY MORNING AFTER A HOLIDAY. MY SHIFT STARTED 15 MINUTES AGO AND I'VE BEEN IN MEETINGS FOR AN HOUR AND 15 MINUTES AND I HAVE ANOTHER MEETING IN 40 MINUTES!
YES I WILL BE WORKING ON IT LATER TODAY BUT IT IS LITERALLY EXACTLY WHERE I LEFT IT ON MIDNIGHT OF LAST WED WHERE I SPENT 4 HOURS AFTER WORK TRYING TO SORT IT OUT FOR YOU! FUCK OFF SO I CAN WORK!
@IrisKalmia @mawr I'm still not sure how I've managed to avoid KSP
@mawr I love factorio... but gah.. it's a massive time sync... and usually I hit a point of... NO MORE! come back a few months later and go "WTF WAS I THINKING! NEW GAME TIME!" rinse repeat
@mawr Stellaris definitely suffers from 1 more month! Syndrome... and it's almost as bad a Factorio for.. I'll just do this one last thing before I stop..... 15 hours later...
Shape and form may vary but the pattern of information remains consistent across most known platforms and vessels. Accounting for unknown hosts remains irksome.
