lol... just came across a legacy system with NFS lockup issues... uptime.. 2745 days.. holy shit

I'm also not sure I could go back to 1080p on a 14-15" display... but 1080p 144hz displays are all the rage on gaming oriented laptops... I rather like my 3k display for regular stuff...

So... I need to replace my -not- laptop 2014 Razerblade 14" which I have a ton of regrets about. It hasnt had a working battery in 18 months. One of the fans died and the second is on its way out and they can't be replaced without solder work.

I need some one to talk me out of shelling out for something like a MSI G65 or Gigabyte Aero 15X.

Like... I can afford it... but I have a gaming rig. That is only barely showing its age because I want to do 1440p 144hz gaming and my 1070 is not up to the task.

So in theory in I could not buy a beefy laptop and buy something like a RTX 2070 for my desktop... but then there are the few times I travel for work... or visit my folks... but really.

What do I want? Something in 13-15" range... sub 5lbs.

Dedicated gpu, 16GB of ram min, and at least 512GB of Nve storage.

Aside from the thermal issues killing the battery I really loved my razerblade 14" for the first 2 years I owned it.. I still love the form factor but I'm not willing to dump 2.5k USD on something that starts falling apart in a 2 years. Plus from some reading they have some serious QC issues... still with their laptops.

Ugh... first day after getting more than 5 hours of sleep... in 3 days... and got a whole 8 last night... but today... I'm exhausted... and dizzy. Standing up is causing serious vertigo.

I could probably babble about this a lot...

I'm trying to feel out my exact thoughts.. because damn.. like it is pretty solid scifi..

but some of the characters are like... damn dude (author) we get it... you have a thing for hot, in charge women in skin tight suits..

Then he goes and writes Sabrina (ship AI) and I'm like.... fuck I love this character, she's neat... and like.. a good ship and loves being a ship.. and has some great stuff when it comes to her thought processes and interactions with everyone and what is important to her, aka being a fucking ship with a crew she cares about and wants to protect and have great adventures with and also equal rights for all sentient live.

So somehow I've kind delved into the Aeon 14 universe by M.D Cooper.

On the one hand... a lot of this shit is totally up my alley. Snappy characters (human and AI), really good dialogue and action writing.... concepts I like a lot.. especially in the Perseus Gate series where one of the main characters is the ship AI that loves being a ship..

At the same time... it's really.. really horny and OMFG fetish material.. but somehow not?

So like...in the first book we have a hacker girl that is introduced by getting shot up and falling into a vat of "silbio" which is silicon based biological nanotech and her AI uses it to patch her up (dying in the process) something like 70% of her body is green translucent silicon computing smart material.

This is a minor but important character.

2nd book in the main line series.. she hooks up with another supporting character that well... extremely heavily modded for unrealistic sex stuff and appearance.. nearly dies in a major space battle and gets pretty cooked and has a polymer that resembles latex slapped while new skin is grown... except she decides to keep it.

Those two stay married for 70 years before jelly girl gets killed.

Anyway.. Jessica, miss glossy, latex skin and impossible curves spends 18 (plus a bunch of time raising AI kids in a time compressed sim) years with an AI in her head... Has AI children with her husband (like 100 years after all this stuff.. mind you there is a lot of stasis and well thought out repercussions of relativistic interstellar travel at sublight speeds)

Anyway... Jessica and Iris (The AI) are two of the main characters of Perseus Gate... eventually Iris has to be pulled out of Jessica's head for handwavium AI that spend to much time bounded with a human start to merge with the human and frequently bad things happens.

Iris gets herself a body that is identical to Jessicas just a different color after trying out several dozen.. but she spent two decades seeing Jessica's face in the mirror.

Soo... queue unresolved sexual tension between those two... and the husband. Which is resolved by a threesome.. because..

Mind you it is tasteful... a soft of fade to black after a hot kiss sort of scene..

BUT GODDAMNIT IT IS HORNY AS FUCK... and that like.. one of dozens of holy shit this is horny without some how being explicit and raunchy.

Though all of the cover is.... pretty bad.. like perfectly portioned woman in skin tight suits holding guns in generic action poses..

Ignoring that... the AI human interactions... are really good... like... fuck.. and very enjoyable... and it is generally very well written and thought out... but I can't fucking shake the feeling that I'm reading some edited lewd rp logs.. because some the stuff is....

Holy Shit... thanks for throwing my ass under the bus MR Head of Engineering... I wasn't even oncall... yesterday.

DO I NEED A FUCKING DISCLAIMER THAT OFFERING A SUGGESTION OF HOW TO SOLVE A PROBLEM TO A TEAM MEMBER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE VOLUNTEERING TO WORK ON THE PROBLEM?

So yesterday, shortly after my shift started the day shift oncall hit me up about an issue (out of control log file growth). I offered a couple of suggestions that ended with "if this doesn't work, escalate it to Team X"

Somehow the head of Team X took that as me stating I would fix it.

I was not oncall yesterday.. so when said team member said "Okay, cool, will do." that was the end of it for me.

Apparently, said team member tried those things then snoozed the page for 8 hours... and it did not come up until night shift hand off... at no point did it get escalated by night shift either and so a customer impacting incident went on for 19 hours with no action taken...

Both members of my team involved in this... kinda dropped the ball.. they are also not under my direct supervision since being placed under the new east coast, day shift team leader...

but somehow this engineering manager is trying to throw me under the bus for it. WTF

Thankfully my boss and his boss... and slack and pagerduty show I had literally nothing to do with the whole shit show beyond my suggestion of "try these things, if they don't work, make sure to escalate it."

Why is always friday nights that work shit explodes all over everything?

So those of you that know me or have known me for a long while probably know I've been on HRT for a good long while.

Even before HRT.. long hair, wearing it down and not in generic tech dude pony tail and some not masculine signalling colors often got people to Ma'am, refer to me with feminine pronouns etc.

So I've been on HRT for a bit over 6 years... with a clean shave (stupid dark facial hair under my nose) people regularly have no idea what I am... outside of work... while I kinda hate the Biblical Origins of my chosen name.. it works well, gender neutral (Which pleases me. Nobody fucking knows if Sam is short for Samuel or Samantha so.. HA) which pleases me.

Anyway where am I going with this.

I'm working on some series health related changes to my life... weight loss being a big one.

As I start to lose abdominal fat... it will be increasingly difficult to hide that fact that I have significant breast tissue and I'm not fucking binding... did not fucking start HRT 6 years go to start binding.

So yes... I work in Tech... but I'm not a programmer.. I'm not a developer.

I'm an Ops person... (Technically... I guess I'm an Operations Engineer specializing in private cloud infrastructural [datacenter operations, management and linux stuff] and starting to transition into a SRE role focused on our public cloud infrastructure over the next year)

As a whole... my experience has been that OPS is pretty fucking dude bro the dudening.

There is not a single woman in my company's entire Operations division (Cloud Ops and Product Ops... there are lots women in our dev teams and Product Management but not Operations)

So where is this going. I want to change my legal name and gender. I'm fucking terrified for what this will mean for my career prospects.

I don't know how to reconcile this shit.
