So... my boss explicitly asked me to find ways to work "Spin the drum." and belter creole into the internal docs I'm writing for our AKS and K8s platform..

"SPIN THE DRUM!" has supplanted "Fuck it, we're doing it live." at my workplace..

Followed by "Do we have gravity?" and "Yea bossmang" or "Na brudna."

Thanks "The Expanse" I'm not really complaining. Mostly just amused.

Hnngg... 2am pages because a dev in another hemisphere restarted a bunch of things without putting them in maintenance first. :X

First late night oncall page in 8 months though... so yay.

The food thing is trauma.. they definitely eat like someone who access to food was used as punishment. The flip side they have some really bad eating habits and over eat to the point of pain if left to their own devices.

I don't fucking know how to deal with that when I make dinner for everyone. I can't be around to make their plate all the time.

Like... I might as well be talking to a fucking brick wall.

I may delete this... just super frustrated.

They don't have anywhere else to go and I can't make them homeless. I just don't fucking know what to do or how to address someone that literally completely shuts down and ignores me when I try to talk to them about this stuff.

Look I fucking get it.. they struggle with depression and ptsd... but I got my own pile of issues and work 40-50 hours a week and so does Aurora.

Don't ask them to pay for food or rent and they don't work... I don't think it is outrageous to ask for 15-20 minutes of house work a day.

Getting more and more frustrated with this person... they live here with us for free.. barely contribute to house choirs... I spend a lot of money on food and stuff for them and I might as well be asking them to climb a fucking mountain when I ask them to unload and load the dishwasher or take the trash out (to the cans.. instead of piling shit on top of a full 30gal can with a 30gal bag in it)

Aurora and I fight about what to do with them on a regular basis...

Great... two for two on causing shit tonight.

Came home from dropping my partner off and noticed housemate walking off with a plate that had the two remaining ribs I made for dinner on it... each around 1.5lbs of meat.

I politely suggested they should start with one because just shy of 3lbs of meat is fuck ton of pork and they are boneless pork shoulder cut in to "ribs" so all meat.

They stomped off after putting their plate down and won't talk to me.. awesome.

DISARM THE POLICE (LITERALLY IF NECESSARY!)

My team: quietly leaving the meeting trying not to run away laughing or screaming or snickering..

Then here comes the big one "We should... like do pull requests.. and maybe set up a slack channel for people to announce code changes and stuff."

My team: Collective jaw dropping... because that is the first thing we did when we started our project...

"Oh and made the pull requests mandatory, this isn't like some one person greenfield show anymore and like.. I don't think it was malicious but it sucks to have someone push code straight to master and fuck everything up."

So we get to it and the guy that brought it up goes into a rant about how one of their team members pushed a bunch of changes straight to master over the holiday weekend that blew up every one on their platform's k8s clusters because their flux-weave implementation does continuous deployment to -all- environments as soon as changes are pushed to master.
We offer some suggestions about doing git tags for versioning and pinning versions to specific environments they shoot those down

Sitting in a meeting with "the team building a competing k8s platform to our own" that really wants to bring my team and project into theirs... we are both using almost all the same tools and doing similar things... on the agenda is "Better ways to communicate and share code" which I took as.. oh they want more insight into what we are doing and vice versa.. cool.
