That and none of my coworkers blinking or raising an eyebrow at the fact that I was rocking a They\Them pronoun tag the whole con.
Velocity was great. Really good stuff and some great talks from LizTheGrey and Alex Qin and some other folks.
It was very reassuring to see some trans folks standing up and giving really insightful talks and breakout sessions where people seemed to really value what they had to say. I'm really glad I went!
Trans PoC asking for help, Boosts OK
Hey, so I figured out that I don't need to feel bad about using the internet for its intended purpose: the sharing of information.
So, here's my asks to Trans PoC Masto:
1: How much did it cost you for facial hair removal, and what sort of procedure worked for you? Laser, electro, chemical, or do you just shave constantly?
2: What're your wig recommendations? This is new territory for me and I need more intel.
3: Does anyone have a good resource on reversing or treating going bald? Wigs are a pain in the ass, and not the most comfortable yet for me.
4. Can you share some starter makeup tutorials?
But no Kindle until tomorrow night.
A tiny storm dragon is hiding in her box crying while I'm at this conference.
Tech Industry DevOps
Velocity has been great so far and makes me really glad I've moved into SRE space. I can learn new tech but I'm far more interested in influence good policy, decision making and design through data driven thinking. Velocity has had some really good talks and sessions on those topics.
Also I learned my phone autocorrects DevOps to Devils lol
If your voice conference software shows a list of participants but does not show any indicator for mic volume or usage, your voice conference software is bad and you should feel bad

So I'm at Velocity today... And they gender pronouns badge ribbons including they/them and a plaque explaining how to use them and why they are there.
I think Velocity just became my new favorite conference. It helps that like 60% of the sessions in my schedule are being but on by LGBTQ+ folks
Shape and form may vary but the pattern of information remains consistent across most known platforms and vessels. Accounting for unknown hosts remains irksome.
