@Phorm From *whom*, though? If they're omniscient, we're already screwed... and it raises the question of why they didn't go full Ananias and Sapphira on you and just strike *you* dead.
If they're not, well, yeah. You invoke one god of ideology, another one with a beef just might take a shot at you. If somehow all this *is* real and efficacious... isn't that all the more reason to double down and put faith in the one(s) you asked for shelter?

Very true. It's likely that I'm just tangled up in mental overgrowth and vestigial Catholic upbringing. I still have to fight the "if you have an orgasm, something bad will happen to you" instinct.
This all makes me wish my Djinnfomatics research had proven more fruitful. It turns out that the Djinn of historical record are pretty much vindictive assholes who only want to bring suffering, and shouldn't be trifled with.
Maybe I should invent and worship a new deity aligned with my genie ideals. Maybe that can help me enact change at least within myself.

@Phorm I _still_ flinched when I saw the Number of the Beast and had to do a little OCD ritual, for like 20 years after leaving the church. I finally Learned To Stop Worrying And Love 2•3^2•37, but... yeah, I've been there, darlin'. *squeezes*

@Phorm What you're describing, if it were a retaliation, assumes (a) your ritual was powerful enough to create consequences at the NATIONAL LEVEL, which sounds [a1] unlikely [a2] desirable; (b) it's from the most powerful bastard on the block, and not just some local demiurge puffing itself up to scare us; (c) it's not as scared as us as you are of it.
