move (+ish)
Got all our boxen from Amtrak yesterday, still pretty exhausted.
My GERD-related esophagus disorder is doing me a big concern, and I'm a bit worried it's because of the new climate. It's MUGGY AS FUCK here, and sinus pressure makes everything from my neck up 100% worse.
Ran out of mobile hotspot data on Peg's phone, and we're throttled to near-uselessness. Gonna be doing most of my communication from this here cute little cafe ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/monkey-monkey-coffee-and-tea-new-orleans ). They are currently playing "Lonesome Cowboy Bill" by the Velvet Underground. This makes me quite happy. They are our kind of people.
Neighbors are really nice so far. Predominantly black, and while that's a bit of a cultural adjustment after the goddamn chilly white Vikingland I just escaped (no offense) and a childhood amid shitty Ohio racial politics... I'm really glad that adjustment's happening. My main concern is accidentally doing something really dumb and whitebread to annoy them, because they've been absurdly nice to us so far (especially 5 Cats Lady).

... how is the food??
re: move (+ish)
@JulieSqveakaroo Tragically, we haven't gotten to do much food adventuring lately, between my innards being grumpy and generally being low-energy.
However! We did get poboys and Creole cream cheese ice cream sandwiches at the Parkway Bakery, and they were quite comforting. Peg's located a couple local pizza places she likes. And both the brunches we've had in town have been very very good! (I have been conscientiously avoiding the gelateria/Italian bakery until I'm feeling back up to snuff AND have earned the calories...)

Creole cream cheese is a traditional Louisiana French cheese made by draining clabber in a cheesecloth sack.

Apparently CCC ice cream is a bit rare these days due to an FDA crackdown on the traditional process (per poorly sourced Wiki assertion), but the New Orleans Ice Cream Co. still makes it!
As noted in the article, it's mild, sweet, and a little tart. Not *quite* as cheesecakey as I'd hoped, but it blended beautifully with the cookie wafers and coating, and in NOLA heat it was a PERFECT soft consistency. Highly recommend; roo _should_ envy. :D
re: move (+ish)
@JulieSqveakaroo The good news is I found you a recipe. The bad news is one of the ingredients is "a package of Creole cream cheese." Oh well. n.n;
