mh, health, eyes (-); cw: may sound a bit yikes but I'm ok :)
Meh, the floaters are still there. Can't tell if it's a few small ones or one huge one, but I'm seeing a ring shape that's supposed to be a bit concerning. (It's called a Weiss Ring apparently. It's never a good sign when doctors have ascribed a person's name to a symptom you've got.)
It's one of those especially frustrating situations where every damn website assumes the reader has infinite cash, insurance quality, and resources and it's really no problem to "get it checked out just in case."
There's only, like, a <15% chance of this sort of thing getting complications, but when they do, it's fairly urgent stuff like retinal tears. Fortunately, when those actually start happening, they're also heralded by some pretty obvious symptoms like bright flashes and showers of little dots. None of that's happening at all.
I really can not take on the stress of a medical adventure right now, so I'm gonna be dumb and chance it for the time being. Basically, if I don't roll a 1 on a d8, I'm fine. As long as the retina doesn't peel off in the process*, the floaters themselves are apparently quite harmless.
It's been a week, and apparently the risk drops off over time and most really bad cases are in the first 5-7 days, so... Oh, and I should also reiterate that this is all happening in my eye that already had a retina warp, so... On one hand, might be at higher risk. On the other, I've already come to kinda consider that eye a bit of a write-off. So whereas this would be FUCKING MY SHIT UP if it were happening in the other eye, I can watch all this with a sort of amused hateful detachment**. :)
Anyhow, I am starting to get in gear to hunt down the ACA application for Louisiana, so with any luck I'll have local insurance by June or July. In the meantime, I'm JUST worried enough that... talking about it here makes me a feel a lot better, so if you read thru all that Eye Ick for me, thank you. <3
*That was the "yikes" part. Sorry for that explicit imagery!
**Um, no pun intended. I should not have said detachment. >_>;
