CW: old relationship thoughts

one of the reasons I probably find myself so distrustful of the classically-furry libertine streak of having dozens of 'casual' partners is that it becomes dangerously easy to use that assumption to make demands of others by dangling affection like a carrot while also conveniently dodging the actual obligations of a relationship, which is something that's happened to me a half-dozen times

this might be one point where I'm legitimately 'old-fashioned' but I've been nailed too often with the 'oh, we weren't THAT serious' rider after rather a lot of time spent doing 24/7 unpaid therapist work for somebody who ditched me as soon as I got boring or didn't match their criteria -after- I got done being the flavor of the week

it took me until I had a relationship with my current partner, who genuinely, no-caveats ACTUALLY cares about me, even when I make mistakes or sound like an obnoxious bitch, to realize just how broken all my old ones were. it took me years to realize that statements like 'all love is fundamentally selfish' were the justifications of an abuser.

@hystericempress "All love is fundamentally selfish"... sure sounds like a certain one or your ex-partners in particular. -_-

@zebratron2084 Like a portrait of a Habsburg, it paints an unflattering but accurate picture, don't it?
