(although tbh this is mostly about the rise of "drone fandom" and how much my consensual-repeat-abductee catborg Hladolet would've fit in... and most of the people in it aren't actually that much more creative than the alt.sex.fetish.robots folks I cut my bot-teeth with... although their queer-friendliness and relative lack of incredibly scuzzy porn-grade fembots=property sexism is genuinely a huge perk and recharges my batteries a bit...)

You know, that sounds pretty damn familiar to me - Most genie fans are pretty much this way, if they're not into being bottled.
Also, a lot of what you're saying resonates pretty strongly with me. Particularly on the drone level/rubber/latex/etc. I feel like I missed that train entirely, particularly when it was a thriving interactive environment on the MU*s.

(arguably there are even some neo-Marxist tropes reflected in the hive-mindy tendencies of the whole trans-dominated "New Drone Movement," and though there are aspects of it that still rub me the wrong way... oh my GOD is it better than the authoritarians Stepfordy covetousness of the old-school botpervs. "famous actress/anime waifu serves me by remote, end of file" is not a very appealing, progressive, or profound fantasy >_< )
