This book appeared in the adult sf/f section of the local library when I was about nine or ten and confused the fuck out of me. Every now and then it bubbles up from the back of my head.

I finally got around to acquiring a copy and I don’t know if it’s good or bad but it sure is A Mystical Near Future Book From The End Of The Seventies. It feels like it wants to be in some kind of dialogue with Heinlein’s Stranger In A Strange Land, to be honest, though I’m going on dim memories of trying to read that one far too early as well. It at least has the grace to be cynical in places, and uses an aggressively unreliable narrator who openly admits he does not have anything like all the facts available.

@anthracite It's always just five years away, isn't it. Has been since, what, around 1966? 1929? 1848? Earlier? :|
