gaming, plea for information
@zebratron2084 Folks have already mentioned, but yes this is about Square-Enix and specifically Final Fantasy XIV.
There was similar hubub when they unlocked the bunny girl outfits to no longer be gender-locked. It's amazing just how fast the fanartists got to drawing cute boys dressed up in them.

@Balina I dunno. I don't know our comparative ages, but this feels like... a thing, when I compare it to the world I grew up in. Kinda like knowing that that two of the most fascism-resistant cultures in 2020 have been "horror rap clowns" and "people who dress up like foxes." There's something... gratifyingly weird and norm-defying about it all. It's a sign that even if our eldest generation is pretty fucked up right now, the Kids Are Alright. ^___^
@Balina Yeah, even the tweet about it that I originally saw seemed disapproving at first and turned out to be just playful about it. It's not even that big of a deal. It alllllmost made me want to play FFXIV for a moment, but I ate something sweet and the feeling went away. :p
@zebratron2084 I mean, true! For one set of reasons or another FFXIV specifically has been very slowly adding more things like this as it goes, and especially from a Japanese company to just do this without it being a punchline is refreshing.
