Confession time: I caved into pressure and got a web-cam.
To the surprise of no one, there's a world-wide web-cam shortage. But I am nothing if not perspicacious. And lo, I discovered that Wyze was offering a firmware update that turns their security cameras into webcams, to fit this need. Serendipity! 🙂
So I acquire the device, and it's adorable. It has screws and magnets for keeping it in place. So far, so good. But then, there's the lens.
It's a security camera, so it has a fish-eye lens. This means that not only can everyone see the chaotic squalor in which I live, they can see it *in every corner, carpet remnant, and cobweb of the room*. 😬
Am now looking for a Win10x64 app that fakes a web camera by running a film loop. 😅
I sympathize.
I admit that I've been spending way too much time looking into the possibility of replacing myself with a virtual avatar, replacing my voice with a pitch-bent and highly modified filtered version, and replacing my apartment with some kind of gussied up harem backdrop.
And then I realized that I'd basically just be replacing myself entirely?
And that that's pretty much what I want.
