Work frustration of the now

The laptop I use at work has started to have serious problems with it's CPU fan. Making awful grinding noises very often, and then stopping outright. So it goes "GNnnNNnnD" then silence for 4-5 seconds, and then repeat. If it hits a heavy load and kicks to 100% fan speed, the fan works fine. But anything less than full tilt and it's GRRrrrrrRrrNNN.

A call to IT, and they're telling me "Oh yeah, just give it to us for two or three days and we'll get it fixed". Of course they're offering a loaner, but it won't have ANY of the software I need, and that's another IT request that'll take three days.

I'm just... Just give me a replacement fan. I can do this in 10 minutes. It's so simple. It's so absolutely dead simple! Why do I have to be hamstrung for three days?!? I can do this myself without barely any effort!

@Phorm BLARGH, that sounds frustrating. I'm gonna be without my work laptop for a week or so myself, but mine was basically just the World's Largest Timeclock Punchcard to start with so I won't really miss it much.

It reminds me of when Peg used to work for the Boston Museum of Science doing Flash animation, and whenever she encountered an IT policy she didn't like, she just... kinda strolled around it, got what she needed with her own skills, and obtained forgiveness instead of permission.

We were mostly reliant on that household income at the time, so I was SO TORN between "dammit, Peg, be careful" and "YOU ARE MY ETERNAL HERO O__O ".

@zebratron2084 I absolutely and 100% approve of the "get around IT" approach whenever it is possible. And I can absolutely appreciate it working well in that situation!

I can also appreciate the tenuous and nervous energy associated with that for sure o.o
