the world didn't end then, either, and some of my friends were very clear in telling me that it quite literally would (i still think back constantly to the smug asshole canada liberal ex-friend who INSISTED he had inside information about an impending Iran invasion and it was a sure thing and it was definitely WW3; not to mention the 15 years I spent with an admittedly kind and lovely and brilliant compulsive doomsayer, none of whose Peak Oil BS came to pass, after they insisted for years we'd never see gas prices < $4/gal ever again...)
if this country was really that totally broken, the supreme court wasn't going to save you anyhow. don't mourn -- organize, don't tell me this is a new concept to you, fellow traveler -___-

(our of fairness i should note that the second doomsayer got MUCH better over the years <3 and has pointed out very wisely over on Twitter that the SCOTUS isn't necessarily our friend to start with, isn't worth a damn compared to our own organizing power, and wasn't going to be what saved us anyhow...)
