Honestly. I'm feeling gaslit. I am not without sympathy towards those who "cancel" problematic celebrities, but don't lie to my goddamn face and tell me it's not a real thing WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT.
Or if you do, have the fucking decency to put it in a box attached to a geiger counter and a vial of prussic acid, 'cause that's the only way I know of that something can simultaneously exist and not exist. -__-

@zebratron2084 Sigh. Birdsite's biggest issue IMO is needing to cater to its character limit, since that inherently leads to ship-of-theseus summaries of complex topics that only the inherently read-in-on won't feel attacked for reading.
For what it's worth I fucking hate the term "cancel culture" *and* the term "cancel"/"cancelled" because of how it fucking oversimplifies things. Yes children, there are bad people who hold and spread harmful beliefs about how the world works and they need to be held to account, but just saying they're "cancelled" doesn't provide any context whatsoever for *why* their actions, patterns of behavior, and/or beliefs are bad and/or wrong and *that* means it doesn't teach anybody anything! Plus, it leads to folks *completely misunderstanding* why someone has been "cancelled," and that ambiguity can and is regularly leveraged by toxic personalities and outright fascists to promote *their* heinous worldviews!
When someone does something bad, be direct. Don't dance around the issue like it's a turd you don't wanna step on. Call the turd a turd, boot who pinched it out, and get the fuckin' pooper scooper and bleach wipes. Fuck.
