Uspol Allies Vent: The Musical
o/` The love of the perfect destroys the mere good
o/` Just because you can doesn't mean you really should
o/` The race for the pure rarely goes very well
o/` But you don't know that
o/` Cause you're a zoomer
o/` And you're naive as fucking hell
Uspol Allies Vent: The Musical
@zebratron2084 I have been having this feeling a lot over the last few days. I kind of want to point out that wanting Democrats to do a lot better and recognizing they are on the whole still measurably, objectively better than Republicans are not mutually exclusive, but I know it will not go over very well, so I don't.
re: Uspol Allies Vent: The Musical
@arilin I just hate how much it all feels like watching history repeat itself in realtime. This is almost exactly the kind of dumb fractious purist stuff that ruined our chances in the 60s and 70s... not to mention Occupy Wall Street.
re: Uspol Allies Vent: The Musical
@zebratron2084 Yeah, I remember getting off the "both parties are basically the same" train in the early-to-mid 2000s, in the fallout from Nader's campaign. In some respects, they are—but there'd clearly have been capital-D Differences, nearly all for the better, if Gore had taken office in 2000. (Starting with climate change, which for a politician at his level he was way ahead of the curve on.)

@arilin Memo to self: tomorrow when brain is fuller, tell Arilin the story behind "Vote For The Crook, It's Important."
(Spoiler/TL;DR: It was Louisiana. The Crook was running against David Fucking Duke. :O You can probably figure out the rest and its connection to our conversation yourself. :) )
re: Uspol Allies Vent: The Musical
@zebratron2084 I remember the basics of that story, actually, and I think I've used it in examples in the past. :)

(this song is dedicated to the Earnest Young Leftist who just trashed John Oliver on my timeline because anything produced by a corporation is icky and evil)
