cw: culture grumbling

I called this shot almost a decade ago, but I'm still so fuckin' irritated that 'problematic media' went from being something that contextualized critical analysis, to being a dogmatic, moralizing bludgeon to terminate critical analysis

frankly a majority of the language academia uses to discuss culture should be treated like fissile nuclear material; it will poison you and everything around you if you are not careful with how you handle it

cw: culture grumbling

remember how we had that multi-year debate about 'ludonarrative dissonance' that basically boiled down to 'I feel weird shooting people in video games and we need to assign that a moral value for Reasons'?

remember how the Steven Universe fandom climbed directly up its own asshole trying to 'prove' Bismuth was a racist caricature, or that you were a nightmare person from hell if you ever drew a character in a body shape other than one the group consensus approved of?

@hystericempress I'm still really pissed off at how they treated Jacob Tobia (Double Trouble on She-Ra) for saying "dyke" in a blatantly non-derogatory and friendly context. And for daring to portray a non-binary character that is not a 100% Lawful Good paragon of decency. (That includes some people who can read this, and... yeah, if you feel a little called out, that's just fine and I still love you).

@zebratron2084 I hate that a lot of queer culture now feels like 'you can be anything you want' and then a footnote that says 'refer to subection 2D, paragraph 3B, Approved Queer Identification Documentation & Receipt Filing to determine your validity as a human being pursuant to review by council; scheduling conflicts may result in disqualification'
