mlp comics reality check
Hey, am I totally misremembering or was there some bit of comics lore about the Equestrians have a long traditional of musical magic? I seem to remember something about, like, Starswirl inventing rock and roll or something similarly silly/charming?
Whatever it was, I walked away with the impression it actually did a pretty good job of justifying Vinyl having turntables in a society that's barely got trains. But I have a history of wishful thinking about these things tinting my memory...

@Phorm Bingo, that's the one! I always thought that was a nice little touch, one of the many things that made me wish the comics were full accepted canon. And that all of EQ were injected with the Tommy Westphall Virus and left to drown in a snowglobe. >_<
re: mlp comics reality check
Honestly the comics had some very strong points. Comic Luna is far and away the superior depiction, hands down. I'll confess I love the comics a ton (And further confess that I have a lot of art from the comic artists, because they're super keen).
They DID get approval for "Season 10" to be canonical, though I confess I haven't read it yet.
At the very least I wish Tiberius was made canon via inclusion in the show. Missed opportunity there. He's so toyetic!

Not entirely sure if this is the issue you're thinking about, but there is an issue of FIENDShip is magic that involved the Sirens and Starswirl with magical music:
