@anthracite @zebratron2084 this surprised me a lot when learnt it, but apparently it has become common knowledge in the last years: The Prince, many scholars believe, was written with this intention, as a veiled warning against the sorts of guys that try to hold on power.
Of course, Machiavelli had to dissimulate a lot to get such a project to be financed by the same people he was denouncing, and as we know, sarcasm is never clear enough.
