@woozle I keep trying, and keep getting told by my Sensible Radical friends that anything but greyfaced organizing and bracing for violence is going to be like spitting in the ocean.
But I'm gonna do it anyhow. Because July 4th is just another day for me and why NOT indulge in my usual breakfast of leaving insulting messages on Boebert and Taylor-Greene's answering machines?
I personally have been enjoying this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldt5lVWX1rs
@zebratron2084 It seems to me that while authoritarians will make a great show of being "put off" by challenges to the dominance of their world-view, such challenges do actually shift the range of what they will accept (however slowly).
Remember: power is everything to them; it's all they respect. Negotiation is seen as a sign of weakness. Blatant disregard for someone's worldview is a show of force, which they respect (which is why they keep doing it).
There's also value in the joy of snark and sarcasm, in that it helps build progressive community and improve morale.
There are moments when reaching out with tolerance can yield the best results, but given how things are now I don't think it should be the default -- because anyone who can tolerate things as they are is not, generally speaking, someone who's interested in deriving their beliefs by reasoning from evidence. :-/
