religious horror
"If god isn't real, there would be no reason to be moral."
re: religious horror
@orrery I know, that's the scary part
re: religious horror
@Draekos Ever since the burnout settled in, I've run out of room to be scared by other people. Disappointed, maybe, but not scared.
re: religious horror
@orrery fair. I'm not like, panicking scared. Disappointed and deeply uncomfortable is honestly a lot more like my feelings too.
religious horror
@Draekos for some people it is all that is keeping them in check, and for one, I’m glad they have some kind of limits.
re: religious horror
@kelseyhusky fair, but like... THAT's the horror of it.
re: religious horror
@Draekos oh, totally agreed.
religious horror
@Draekos funny you should mention this now. I’ve been thinking about punishment, maltheism and worthiness a lot as part of trying to hack Yom Kippur (it’s where some bad messages from Judaism stacked with terrible messages from fundamentalist Christians). The assumption that God makes one moral is so wrapped up in really southern dualism about people being good or bad. It’s a mess.
What got you thinking about it?
re: religious horror
@Leucrotta video essay on christian propaganda movies. Although it's a point I've thought about several times before.
re: religious horror
@Draekos defining God’s benevolence by Her ability to punish and keep in line is consistent with how the same people assign value to police and soldiers. I don’t think it makes happier or more ethical people. It’s kinda a sore point for me, given where I grew up.
religious horror
@Draekos I've heard far too many people say this unironically in my life.
