My brain is in a much, much better place today than it was yesterday.

And... that's one of the very real challenges of chronic depression. Frequently – for me, usually – changes in mood don't have any clear stimulus, and sometimes they seem wholly inappropriate. Not just, "Why did I feel terrible yesterday,", but also "Why do I feel so good today when I got too little sleep, heard sad news, and ate all the wrong things for breakfast?" It defies patterns and resists scientific approach.
