like is there a specific real-world bomb design that that's meant to represent? we could see it as like, a bomb designed to be launched out of a cannon
@typhlosion huh! fascinating, thanks for the link!
seems my thought that it makes sense for something shot out of a cannon was pretty spot-on, except it was a mortar instead of a cannon
@typhlosion of course nowadays high explosives are more likely to be used than black powder. stuff like anfo and c4 doesn't need a casing in order to make it explode
@Felthry It will just come from the practice of stuffing explosives in to a jar and having a fuse attached.
Like I don't think it's a *specific* type of bomb in the west
Thunder Crash Bombs were round which is probably where the cultural history in the east comes from for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunder_crash_bomb
@Felthry Possibly also early ceramic hand grenades too
@DarkOverord someone else linked https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/why-we-picture-bombs-as-round-black-balls-with-a-burning-wick which says that it actually was a type of bomb used in the west! it was also a sealed ball full of black powder that exploded from pressure buildup, since they didn't have high explosives back then
