if anyone happens to know where we can get a 180 watt laptop charger with a 5.5×1.7 mm barrel plug that has a breakaway on the laptop side of it, please let us know

Perhaps search for 'magnetic' instead of breakaway? Not sure if that will make the difference, but that's the kind I've seen that has that sort of function.
@Tryn can't find any for our laptop

Ah. I think I've stumbled across the problem. You can apparently blame apple for this tech not being everywhere, and why you only see really see it on apple devices, or things with very standardized and broad connectors (IE: phones with USB-C)
US Patent No. 7311526 is an incredibly broad patent on magnetic connections for power cables, and it appears any company would have to pay a licensing fee to apply in order to use something similar.
@Tryn how about non-magnetic breakaway connectors then, those aren't hard -F
Long response w/ possible product that may be out of production
I genuinely can't seem to find any sort of electrical breakaway cables that aren't for use with what seems like... very specific use cases? It's hard to describe, a good portion of them are for what looks like industrial or factory use? Basically connectors I haven't seen at all or have only seen on heavy machinery (which begs the question why does it have a breakaway cable???)
I did manage to find a plug that works on a standard household outlet, but it seems they've sold out and quite possibly might not be producing them anymore given I don't see any mention of them past a year ago...
The product is Tug by "ilovehandles" in case you want to watch it or look further into it. I'm genuinely surprised I couldn't find another brand or instance of the design.
re: Long response w/ possible product that may be out of production
@Tryn i don't think that'll work for our case, i want to protect the laptop's dc in jack, not the wall outlet. Thank you though!

also why the fuck is this apparently not a thing
tripping over power cords has been the cause of three of the four laptops we've had break on us breaking
and the other one had a third-party adapter that used an adapter that functioned as a breakaway
you'd think a breakaway plug would be the obvious thing to use here, so why do we not see more of them?
our current laptop even has a right-angle plug on it which makes it even more prone to such damage
