we keep learning about things, usually foods, that are so common here but are completely unheard-of in other parts of the world

like apparently a key lime pie just isn't a thing in europe
-F

@Felthry well, for starters we don't have key limes

Follow

@noiob yeah and that feels weird to us! because they've been in the produce section of every grocery store we've ever been to

of course I understand that they don't grow them over there and there's not enough demand to import lots of them but it still feels weird on some instinctual level because we're so used to them being just a thing you can buy at any old grocery store
-F

@noiob kinda makes me wonder what kind of things are ubiquitous in europe and completely unknown here
-F

@Felthry well, I guess a lot of things typical of Europe got imported

@Felthry Actually, I know a thing you've probably never eaten, European blueberries. They're harder to harvest and transport because they're more sensitive so they've mostly been replaced with American blueberries which are less blue but also more sturdy

@noiob I would not be surprised if we've never had that then, yes! Do you know if they taste much different?
-F

@noiob Berries in general seem very prone to staining stuff compared to other fruits

you can get stains from blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, even watermelons stain pretty easily (watermelons are technically berries), but you never see apple or orange stains
-F

@noiob we actually didn't know bananas were berries!
-F

@Felthry huh, Adam Ragusea (Youtube) says Key Limes aren't widely available even in the US, so his recipe uses Persian Limes

@noiob huh... i know we've seen a lot of things sold as key limes at least. they might not be true key limes
-F

@Felthry fun fact: they first time I heard about Key Lime Pie is when it was the codename for Android K

@noiob probably. come to think of it, i don't know if we've seen them since moving here to the northwest, maybe they're just common in the south
-F

@noiob would make sense, citrus tends to like that kind of climate
-F

@Felthry I'm also guessing other cultivars can handle shipping better

@noiob key limes have a really thin rind as citrus goes, so that makes sense
