like I know there's no 100% reward but also so many of these puzzles hide e-tanks and an even larger portion you can't even see the reward until you get it which is an extra layer of BS.
and a single E-tank can make the difference between being creamed by a boss over and over and managing to buy enough time to finish it off or get a counter.

@nautilee The E-tank complaint is a valid one but I'm not sure I agree that the 100% completion should not require extremely difficult tricks
I don't know, you don't HAVE to do 100%, the whole point of it is being an extra challenge and you can choose whether to bother with it or not, I think

speedrunning tricks should only be required for *speed*.
metroid dread grumping
@nautilee Yeah. But... it's not a speedrunning trick.
metroid dread grumping
frame-perfect tricks? double shinesparks, which might as well be frame perfect?
metroid dread grumping
Like, it's an incredibly high skill trick that is *literally* impossible for semi-disabled casual players like us. Whether it's technically a "speedrunning" trick is immaterial considering it requires the same skill as.
Completion shouldn't be locked behind such high skill tricks no matter what you call them or decide to nitpick us calling them.
re: metroid dread grumping
@nautilee I don't think there's anything literally frame-perfect, I could do it and I'm not very good at precise stuff, so I thought it was an exaggeration
re: metroid dread grumping
I'm pretty sure at least one of these is no more than two or three frames worth of leeway on getting enough speed to boost and then store the spark before hitting a wall.
might be an alternate way to do it? but requires jumping up a shaft with slopes that I think preclude holding boost speed?
also the double shinespark is absolute bullshit. like we've got partners that speedrun metroids and *they* thought that was bullshit to lock 100% behind.
re: metroid dread grumping
@nautilee I see. Well, I apologize then, I clearly wasn't remembering right. Sorry
re: metroid dread grumping
tbh the worst thing about that trick is it *looks* like you should be able to just, get boost and slide under a wall? but if that *is* possible the timing was impossible not only for us but for our actually good at metroid gf so like...
re: metroid dread grumping
@Felthry @socks @nautilee 2D Metroid in general seems to have bought more and more into its hardcore niche due to Super Metroid taking off as one of like, the first big speedrun games, so they keep making its hardest tricks more and more extreme to appeal to a perfection-seeking crowd.
I thought they had it good with Fusion where the truly ridiculous trick was just for an easter egg that bears some prestige, not actual completion.
