hot take frame perfect tricks, rediculous walljump speed boost chains, and nonsense like double shinesparks shouldn't be required to 100% a game. -N

like I know there's no 100% reward but also so many of these puzzles hide e-tanks and an even larger portion you can't even see the reward until you get it which is an extra layer of BS.

and a single E-tank can make the difference between being creamed by a boss over and over and managing to buy enough time to finish it off or get a counter.

@nautilee The E-tank complaint is a valid one but I'm not sure I agree that the 100% completion should not require extremely difficult tricks

I don't know, you don't HAVE to do 100%, the whole point of it is being an extra challenge and you can choose whether to bother with it or not, I think

@socks

speedrunning tricks should only be required for *speed*.

metroid dread grumping

@nautilee Yeah. But... it's not a speedrunning trick.

@socks

frame-perfect tricks? double shinesparks, which might as well be frame perfect?

metroid dread grumping

@socks

Like, it's an incredibly high skill trick that is *literally* impossible for semi-disabled casual players like us. Whether it's technically a "speedrunning" trick is immaterial considering it requires the same skill as.

Completion shouldn't be locked behind such high skill tricks no matter what you call them or decide to nitpick us calling them.

metroid dread grumping

@nautilee That's my point though, I don't understand why it shouldn't. Completing the game, yes, but going for 100%? Why is it wrong for that to be more demanding?

re: metroid dread grumping

@socks @nautilee I think there's a distinction to be drawn between "more demanding" and "so demanding that it's exclusionary to disabled people who want to 100% the game"

re: metroid dread grumping

@Felthry @nautilee I see. I didn't realize it was THAT bad for disabled people. That really sucks in that case

re: metroid dread grumping

@socks @nautilee it feels like dread really amped up the difficulty on some shinespark tricks over the previous games, and the only one that remotely compares is the one in fusion that only gets you the easter egg cutscene, nothing required for 100% completion -F

re: metroid dread grumping

@Felthry @socks @nautilee 2D Metroid in general seems to have bought more and more into its hardcore niche due to Super Metroid taking off as one of like, the first big speedrun games, so they keep making its hardest tricks more and more extreme to appeal to a perfection-seeking crowd.

I thought they had it good with Fusion where the truly ridiculous trick was just for an easter egg that bears some prestige, not actual completion.
