why do snes roms generally use the file extension .smc
most of the time it's something more obvious like .nes for nes or .gb for gameboy, so why isn't it .sfc? i get why it wouldn't be .snes, because the early days of snes emulators there would still be lots of systems out there that didn't like more than three characters in file extensions but .sfc fits fine

Because one of the common devices used to dump SNES games was called the "Super MagiCom". It had a floppy drive in it, like an early version of a flash cart.
@dodec Oh, could it load games from floppies too? Someone else mentioned that and we looked into it but i thought it was just for dumping
