social media meta, reference to raspberry pi foundation meta (redraft #2 for CW)

social media skills thought we're thinking about some more tonight

(we didn't remember who made the referenced post - looks like dads.cool/@ryan/10948507419193 - but we picked it because the context says that yes, this is a good post)

social media meta cont'd

like, it's ... not a /bad/ thing, to remove remarks from their context? our "How to Be a Jerk Ethically" post from 2020 - packbat.dreamwidth.org/313139. - is much more relevant in the years since 🦊 wrote it than whatever bullshit 🦊 wrote it in response to

(likewise, the ACAB post - the ACAB post is gonna be evergreen, calling it now)

but vagueblogging is also a harassment technique

and that kind of makes recognizing it when it comes up an important skill

@packbat could you elaborate a bit on what exactly vagueblogging means?

re: social media meta cont'd

@Felthry we're using it to mean "saying a thing which sounds generally true without mentioning the context that makes it mean something else".

In the ACAB case, they're explicitly saying, "people outside the US should not assume that their local police are above reproach", but the context means they're implying, "the RPi Foundation is full of shit when they claim UK police are different from US police so hiring a cop is fine, actually".

in this case, the implication is true

but in some other cases, it's a lie told to attack some target
