I've gotta get rid of my internalized anti-furry feelings. Being a furry is such a core part of my identity. I'm so proud of my community most of the time.
So why can't I be proud of it in myself?
I'm a furry and I'm proud.
I'm a queer girl and I'm proud.
I'm not human and I'm proud.
I'm a... whatever I am... and I'm proud.
I want it to be true. But I'm scared of what other people think... It's still something I'm prepared to hide behind a quick nervous laugh if someone starts giving me shit for it. I don't like that.
@tastymochafox You're a wonderful being, is what I think. I might not know you very well, but I see some parallels to myself in you, and I like what I've seen of you. You have every right to be proud! Defy those who deny you your identity.

@tastymochafox stuck in Alabama, unfortunately. At least it's a university, so the ultra-conservativism that the area is known for is rather toned down.

@tastymochafox Like I said, it's not that bad. We attend the university of alabama and universities are well-known for staving off that kind of nonsense.
We've lived in the south our whole life, though it's only recently that we started paying any attention to politics (too young to understand in the Bush days, and things weren't anywhere near terrible enough to get that upset over (at least to our mind) during the Obama administration)
