D&D story
Alrick's campaign finished tonight!
If you recall, while on a quest to stop a god who'd taken an aasimar as a vessel- who sacrificed herself willingly to stop a torrential army of drow, demons and undead- Alrick had come across two dracoliches originally a part of the undead army that we fought and defeated one, while the other one parlayed their lives and phylacteries in exchange for helping defeat the goddess
D&D story
So anyway- last session we faced off against the goddess and she managed to disappear and flee, having depleted the powers of her vassal in an attempt to kill us
our allies destroyed the 5 shrines while we distracted her long enough to prevent her from going to the other shrines
one of our parties failed- and were slain- but the other groups came together and defeated that
the goddess retreated into her home plane once this happened and pulled us with her- but we did enough
D&D story
The one who started all of this- a servant of the goddess of pain- waylaid us after we entered her tower we discovered she had retreated to
About this time, Alrick pulled out the lich's phylactery and told him it was time to enter the tower and finish this. After pissing off the party but mostly helping in two very large battles against an army of flesh golems and mages on both sides flinging meteor swarms we made our way up
D&D story
We discovered the BBEG's vassal tied to a bed- she was temporarily free of the goddess's influence but there was no way to save her soul *and* stop her from being used as the goddess's vassal again- so we had to kill her
But she was temporarily protected by a dimensional barrier that projected an illusion of her to us- so Alrick spoke with her while the party figured how to rejoin the two dimensions and learned her life story and helped comfort her
D&D story
After the dimensions were joined, Alrick immediately grabbed her hand and held her close (despite getting screamed at by THE ENTIRE PARTY) and succeeded on several wisdom saves- including one he failed but succeeded because I used our cheat dice (1 reroll per game with the cheat dice that replaces 1,2 and 3 with 18,19, and 20)
He comforted her in her last moments- and her soul, while still tormented for eternity by the goddess of pain, doesn't feel alone and remembers his warmth
D&D story
Finally- the liches needed to be dealt with
If you recall I had a djinni I befriended who hated our mage friend (who had let me borrow a staff of the magi, a legendary item of absurd power)
I traded that (much to his irritation) and my cloak of invisibility in exchange for a chance to bring the liches back to life after having convinced the main one to swear he would try his best
It succeeded and while still plenty evil- Alrick befriended the dragon brothers for life
